I Am Biotech: Discover, Share and Discuss
Eva Barboni, the current editor of the I Am Biotech web site, contacted me a few weeks ago about giving a small presentation to our New York Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology meetup about her new site. Given our focus on Biotechnology, I thought it was a great idea that could eventually lead to a collaborative partnership in the future, so I decided to check out the site and write about it here.
First, I must say the site is nicely presented and has a real Web 2.0 look and feel to it. Before you’re allowed in, you’ll be prompted to “Join the Movement,” where you can enter your name, email address, zip code and opt to be an active contributor. You can additionally select to be a “guest reader”, forgoing the sign-up process.
The site itself is clean and has a nice mix of videos and text articles, and seem to be actively involved in social media outlets such as facebook, twitter and meetup. The top right side of the page has a nice set of popular topics and a brief description of the organization itself.
What draws me to this site is its focus on educating and defining the biotechnology world. As Eva told me during our phone conversation, many are introduced to biotechnology via its medical applications, but the subject can really encompass so much more, including environmental issues, biofuels, and even political issues surrounding the field. It’s not complex, so it’s accessible to nearly everyone, but it’s well-written and concise, making a 30-second visit as valuable as a 15-minute visit.
In lieu of a long post today, I’m encouraging you to check out this site. There’s a lot of good material there and it can prove to be an interesting resource in the future for all things biotech!
Have a great week!
