Guest Post: What is in our Water?
Today’s guest post is courtesy of Susan Torlucci, an NSA Wellness Educator that I met at one of my small business networking groups. She’s written for this blog before about health and wellness, and today she brings us an article about the benefits of drinking pure Alkaline water.

“It must be something in the water” is what I’ve heard from many over the years. Hmmm… it certainly is a topic in the news lately. What IS in our water? Do we know? Should we care?
People must drink water. After all, 75% of our body makeup is water. It is the conductor of all communication within our bodies. Proper hydration is key for optimal health. New cells are formed in our body every day, made from the foods and beverages that we consume. So, yes, it is true that “We are what we eat.”
A serious emerging environmental problem is the residual pharmaceuticals in our ecosystem. It’s no secret that people have been flushing prescription medications down the toilet as the recommended method of disposal. This prompts the question, “How much of this residue are we consuming in our drinking water and what effects will it have on our health?” (editor’s note: see “Drinking Others’ Prescriptions” on this blog for more information)
Yet, the water we are drinking may be contributing to the maladies from which we suffer. If we learned that the water we drink contains toxins, would we continue to drink it? Tap water is known to contain chlorine, possibly lead and other toxins. Most bottled waters have been found to be acidic, promoting and supporting disease. Is there a better choice?
To enjoy optimal health, it is a fact that our bodies must maintain an alkaline state (*). Drinking pure, alkaline water and consuming alkaline-producing foods such as fruits and vegetables will reduce our risk for disease and help to eliminate the toxins in our body as we strive for better health. These wonderful antioxidants are helpful in reducing free radicals in our body. A balanced nutritional diet is one which we so desperately need, yet our busy lifestyles make so difficult to accomplish.
Have your drinking water tested ~ you may be very surprised at what you find.

Susan Torlucci began her career as an information technology expert, deeply involved in system design, development, implementation and training throughout the first 13 years of her career. After a hiatus of about 10 years to raise her two daughters, she dove back into the workplace, now focused on obtaining and maintaining a position in which she could leverage her skills that had not grown stale and maintain a healthy balance between work and home life. She found that balance by becoming a distributor of Juice Plus, a completely natural supplement derived from the juices of fruits and vegetables.

As if to put an exclamation point at the end of Susan’s article, this was just released by the AP today:

Which indicates that Pharma companies may have be tainting the water unregulated for years (and this is aside from the drugs we expel from our bodies as waste). Certainly a more and more poignant piece of discussion as more information is discovered on this topic.
